An Early Medieval copper-alloy zoomorphic strap-end of Thomas's Class A, dating to the period c.775 - c.925. The strap-end is of flat section and is broadly rectangular in plan, its long sides converging slightly, towards the bottom end, where a pair of moulded ears above a number of incised chevrons create the impression of a forward-facing zoomorphic mask terminal. At the opposite end of the object are the remains of the two attachment plates. A Trewhiddle style beast, defined by niello-filled grooves, occupies a rectangular panel on the upper surface of the strap-end's body. Thi…

Fragment of a cast silver gilt early medieval pin, comprising most of the pinhead. The fragment is flat and sub-rectangular in surviving form, with a rounded top and a flat lower edge. In the centre of the lower edge is the broken stub of the pin's shaft. The pinhead's shape is formed from two opposing birds in Salin's Style II, the design repeated on each face of the pin. Their heads, with sharp curving beaks, meet at the top of the pinhead and their backs form the sloping outer edges, wings tucked into their bodies (the tip of one bird's wing is broken off) and tails extending to for…

A middle to late Anglo-Saxon copper alloy strap end of Thomas' (2003) Class A, Type 1, split attachment-end with twin copper alloy rivets holes, complete but missing the rivets. The face is decorated with an indistinct design due to wear - it appears to be interlaced (Trewhiddle style) and a very small amount of niello inlay survives. The animal-head terminal has engraved ears and a raised snout with twin oblique mouldings on both sides forming the eyes. These strap ends dominated the cheaper end of the market (Thomas 2003:2) and can be dated to c. AD 750-950.
