The frame is decorated with continuous transverse incised bands or ridges on the front surface, some of which are inlaid with a darker material, possibly niello. From the base of a narrow rectangular strap loop a semi-oval loop projects down and forwards curving back on itself towards the base of the strap loop from which it sprung. A fragment of a copper-alloy early medieval (late Anglo-Saxon) strap end with inlaid niello and silver wire decoration. Only the lower zoomorphic terminal end survives. The outer face of the terminal has moulded, C-shaped 'ears' curving inwards to either side of its inner end and an inwards cuving, blunt snout, but few other visible features.
