Silver strap-end with incised 'vine-scroll' interlace motifs, interwoven with harps and set around a centrally placed equal-arm cross with circular terminals. There are traces of niello, and of further decoration at the break, where the split attachment would have had two circular rivet holes (missing). The strap-end terminates in a stylised animal head with large rounded ears and small circular eyes, with incised lines on brow and to represent snout/mouth. The reported object is an annular brooch. The silver frame is of circular cross-section, and slightly distorted. One face is decorated with four groups of diagonally-set incised lines inlaid; the other face has transverse lines around 50% of the frame, and pairs of parallel lines set herringbone pattern fashion for the other half. There are traces of black niello within the incised lines. The two sides of the wrap-around head overlap at the top, and the head swivels freely on the frame. An incomplete and much abraded cast copper-alloy harness pendant likely to be part of the military parade uniform of the Roman cavalry in the later 1st century AD (50-150 AD). The pendant measures 43.7mm in length and 36.4mm in width, it is a maximum of 4.3mm (minimum 3.3mm) in thickness and weighs 16.38 grams. The suspension loop and outer edges have all been lost through abrasion. Originally the pendant would have been symmetrical and sub-oval (roughly heart-shaped). Now the fitting is broadly sub-oval.
