Two fragments of Post Medieval fineware, wheelmade pottery. One fragment is a rim sherd with a lip bordering the rim on the outer surface. The fragment is dark grey with a shiny black slip on the exterior and is smooth in texture. It is difficult to confidently identify inclusions, however there appears to be rare, irregular medium sized inclusions of white chalk. The rim sherd measures 53.8 mm in length, 16.2 mm wide, 3.3 mm thick and weighs 12.33 g. The other fragment is a worn base sherd, with a portion of the outer circumference. A body sherd from a Roman Samian Ware vessel, it is too small to estimate the vessel form. The sherd is undecorated with a rbright orange slip on both internal and external surfaces. The fabric is pinkish orange with a fairly hard, laminate and has an angular fracture and relatively abundent very fine limestone. The sherd weighs 6.77g. Samian Ware was produced in Gaul from the mid 1st to the mid 3rd century. The fabric and colour of this example suggests it may be a Central Gaulish ware dating to c.AD 50-125 (Tyers 1999:113).

A fragment of a Post Medieval delftware tile, dating AD 1618-1723. The tile is formed of a light grey clay with fine inclusions. The fragment is unevenly shaped but flat on both sides. There appears to be a lip on one edge but this is likely due to ware, rather than intentional manufacture. A body sherd from a Roman Oxfordshire brown slipped ware vessel, probably a closed form such as a flagon or beaker. The sherd has a soft bright orange fabric with a reduced grey core and sparse very fine quartz inclusions. Stamped with fan shaped stamp and a rouletted row of squares. Dark grey-black slip remains in traces. The sherd weighs 3.48g and is very abraded. Oxfordshire colour coated Wares were produced from around AD 240-400 and were distributed mainly in southern and central England (Tyers 1996, 175-179).

A rim sherd from a Roman Samian Ware vessel, probably a beaker with a rim rolled outwards below which the body widens, such as the LudV forms. The sherd is undecorated with a very glossy red slip on both internal and external surfaces. The pink-orange fabric is has sparse quartz inclusions. The sherd weighs 0.93g and is abraded. Too little remains to estimate a diameter. Samian Ware was produced in Gaul from the mid 1st to the mid 3rd century. The fabric and colour of this example suggests it may be a Southern Gaulish ware dating to c.AD 40-150 (Tyers 1999:112).

The sherd is undecorated with a reddish-brown slip on both internal and external surfaces. The fabric is hard, laminate with an angular fracture and abundent very fine limestone and sparse quartz and sparse larger, laminate limestone c. 2.7mm by 1.2mm. The sherd weighs 1.68g. Samian Ware was produced in Gaul from the mid 1st to the mid 3rd century. The fabric and colour of this example suggests it may be a Central Gaulish ware dating to c.AD 50-125 (Tyers 1999:113).
