Roman: A sherd from the neck of a colour coated flagon made from New Forest Parchment Ware dating from the mid 3rd to 4th Centuries AD (260-400 AD). The sherd comes from the neck of the flagon, the rim and body are lost. The sherd is diagnostic being irregular in shape; the neck has a biconvex expansion which tapers into a cylindrical rim on one edge and expands into the body of the flagon. All faces are broken. The external face is decorated in relief with a pictoral scene of a child feeding a goat with a scrolling border above. The fragment measures 44.2mm (length) x 37.5mm (width) x 4.6mm (thickness) and weighs 6.82g. Samian ware was imported from Gaul (modern France and Western Germany); this fragment is likely to be from Southern or Central Gaul and date to c. 50-100 AD.

A rim sherd from a Roman imitation samian bowl of Dragendorff 38 form (see Webster 1996: 51). The upper wall of the vessel is vertical and the rim is plain. A curved flange projects outwards from the wall, beneath which the vessel angles inwards. The fabric varies between light grey and light orange in section, the outer surface has lines of black slip or painted decoration and the inner surface is also black in parts. The sherd is relatively unabraded. It measures 112.8mm long, 55mm high and weighs 81.21g.

A complete ceramic wheel made Roman New Forest fine ware indented beaker, reassembled from a main core and some separate sherds. It has an orange oxidised fabric with a fine sand temper which has been hard fired. The surface has been coated with a dark orange-brown slip. The beaker is Fulford's (1975, 50, 52-3) Type 27, an indented beaker with a tall straight body and it is possible that the beaker belongs to his second sub type with a sometimes quite prominent beaded rim (Type 27.11-12).
