A fragment of a probably Medieval vessel dating from AD1100 - AD1500. The sherd has been wheelthrown and has a mid orange fabric with a black, unoxidised core. The inner surface has been treated with a brown slip whilst the slip on the outer surface is black. Along one edge is a strip of yellow slip measuring 10.67mm in width. The fragment is a body sherd and is therefore undiagnostic. It is also unclear what type of vessel the sherd came from. The sherd measures 30.82mm in height, 48.58mm in width, 6.14mm in thickness and weighs 11.00g.

A fragment of the handle from a Brill / Boarstall ware jug. The handle fragment has three holes across the top and four running down its length; these would have been made with a small tool while the clay was still wet. The handle fragment has a mottled yellow and green glaze, patchy across the surface and occasionally filling the decorative holes. The fabric is pale orange with frequent small granular inclusions and occasional larger iron ore inclusions. This type of Brill / Boarstall pottery would have been produced between AD 1350-1450.

Two rim sherds of slipped earthenware jugs of medieval date (1250-1500). The sherds are consistent with the Worcestershire jug type fabric which has a white coloured slip. The two sherds are from different jugs as they have different rim profiles and side wall thicknesses. The fabric is a hard earthenware: it is mica rich, having well sorted white quartz / grit-like inclusions and sparse grog (crushed pottery) inclusions. The fabric is an oxidised orange colour; the white slip has been applied solely to the rims; and does not seem to be applied to the interior or exterior of the vesse…

A decorative Medieval floor tile, slightly damaged. The base of the tile is also damaged, probably as a result of it being removed from its original setting. The tile is two-tone and is decorated with a pair of parallel lines that divide the tile diagonally in half. Another pair of parallel lines runs off from the centre to the edge of the tile, dividing half of the tile into two further segments. Within these segments is a fleur-de-lys design. In the lower half of the tile there is an arc with nine diamond shapes bound in the arc by two lines. Beneath this is what appears to be a lea…

A decorative Medieval floor tile, slightly damaged on one corner. The base of the tile is also damaged, probably as a result of it being removed from its original setting. The tile is decorated with an arc spanning its central width beneath which is a chevron with curved arms from which protrude seven 'fingers'. Beneath this design is two further cheverons, again with curved arms. Above the central arc is the bottom of another, unclear, design. The two-colour effect of the tile was achieved by etching the design into the clay base then filling these voids with a white clay. Coating th…

A rim fragment from a ceramic vessel of the late Medieval or post-Medieval period. The vessel is probably a pot, jar, or bowl, made of a buff white clay. The fabric is relatively clean and soft to the touch, even powdery. In profile, the rim hooks downward slightly from the top of the vessel, and the base of the sherd corresponds with the base of the neck with an outward swelling of the body. The exterior has a light orange-brown slip. Possibly Tees Valley ware or Aldin Grange ware.
