An incomplete silvered copper alloy object of uncertain date and function, possibly Post Medieval to Modern sugar tongs or similar, but possibly part of a Medieval brooch pin. The object is rectangular and is D-shaped in cross-section. One end now tapers to a point, but is broken and could have been longer. The other end flattens, widens and is slightly concave. This could be the start of the bowl of sugar tongs, or the start of the rolled loop on a brooch pin. The curved outer face of the shaft is decorated with longitudinal lines giving a fluted effect. The flat inner side is not …

Copper alloy Unidentified Object with white metal plating traces. A tapering curved bar with a projecting lug or loop on the external side of its curve, and presumably having lost part of its extent. The poor condition of the object would admit the possibility of an open suspension loop having being closed by partial melting, though the retention of any white metal plating in temperatures capable of melting a copper alloy would be odd. One side is in poor condition, and the other in very poor condition. The object may have been a pendant. Suggested date: Unknown, 40-1050. Height: 1…

A fragment of an unidentified object probably dating to the Early Medieval period. The fragment is roughly triangular and flat. The two long edges are breaks, while the shorter edge is orginal and curved. The front is decorated with an incised band containing three ringed dots. Below the band are three further ringed dots. The object has a green-black appearance suggesting a silver content, however where corrosion reaches the surface this is green in colour suggesting that the object is probably plated copper-alloy.

Unidentified object consisting of a 1.4mm thick disc, both faces silvered. In its centre is a projecting pin, 2.2mm diameter x 0.3mm high. It is unclear if it is visible on the other face. On one side of the disc is an integral projection, rectangular, 4.5 x 2.5mm, stepping down to 3.3 x 3.3mm. This may represent the damaged end of a shank. Through the projection is rivet with a 2.0mm diameter head, on the other side of the projecting plate are two curved arms 2.0mm wide x 1.1mm thick which follow the edge of the disc for 6.5mm. A notch on the edge of the disc opposite the projection …

A cast copper alloy artefact of unknown function of late Iron Age - Roman date, more likely of Roman date (100 BC - 250 AD). The artefact may be best described as a handle being sub-triangular in shape, irregular in profile and sub-rectangular in section. The profile is likely to be distorted in the soil - in shape it is similar to a bow brooch but is much heavier than most examples seen. It is therefore more likely to be either a handle or a decorative mount. The artefact tapers from a relatively wide and thick terminal to a rounded foot knop at the base. The section also tapers in t…

An ornate moulded strip of copper alloy, or perhaps silvered copper-alloy. The strip is curved in cross-section and appears to be complete on both long edges. The object is broken across both narrow ends. The object is decorated on one side only. The left field is decorated with ornate oval motifs with a circle separating them. The right hand field is formed by a ridge. The perimeter of the right hand field is smooth and appears to be original unless it is a neat cut done in antiquity. The object is possibly later Early Medieval.

A fragment of a cast copper alloy object. it has a small shaft with a circular cross-section, and a flared sub triangular terminal with a D-shaped cross-section. The surface of the object is very pitted and damaged, however there are some remnant's of silvering. There is one small circular hole at the point where the shaft starts to flare into the terminal end. The break in the shaft is old as it has worn. This item could possibly be a handle for a Post medieval spoon, although no parallels have been found. 38.38mm x 12.00mm (width of terminal) x 5.25mm T 4.50g

A silvered cast copper alloy unidentified object. The object has a flat circular 'bezel' with a shank extending from one side. The shank is rectangular in cross-section and in plan. The shank is bent under the bezel and raised at the other side as if it was going to rejoin the bezel to form a finger ring, though this might just be fortuitous damage. The 'bezel' has been silvered.

Cast copper alloy unidentified object. The object has a worn and probably incomplete split terminal that appears to have some iron corrosion between it. A 'C' shaped section of frame curves off the back of the split terminal. This area looks slightly irregular though just before the break on one arm there is a faceted area that may represent an animal biting onto the frame. The object has been silvered or tinned and might be a buckle.

An unusual, incomplete artefact cast in copper-alloy of medieval date (c. 11th-12th century AD). It consists of a creature, possibly a bear (L. 22mm, W. 7.3mm), gripping a facing bird. The bird sits on a platform, perhaps formed of the creature's legs, broadly perpendicular to the creature's body. This has broken just beyond the bird revealing a trapezoidal cross-section with rounded corners. The back of the creature curves gradually, bifurcating just beyond this platform. One branch is vestigial and very thin compared to the other. This latter is c. 28mm long with a circular cro…
