The front of the rim bears the maker's or vendor's legend: HUTCHINSON.SCAWBY. on what appears a larger border motif resembling a belt or Garter. The sunken boss retains black paint. Copper alloy with silver plating Brooch. Colchester Derivative Brooch, Mackreth Type CD H 1a-b, in which the mid bow knop of the trumpet brooch is adapted for a Colchester Derivative. Tubular wings with a single incised groove at the outer edge are clenched behind around an axis bar retaining the stub of a hinged pin. The middle of the bow has a low spur, though this does not appear to represent a lost top loop, and may rather reflect the section of the bow. The bow, with a medial aris from its keeled section, meets a collared knop which has petal ornament on the display face only. …

Copper alloy. Brooch. Cast zoomorphic plate brooch, representing a swimming duck as a three-dimensional figure, and bearing traces of white metal plating on the plate. The plate was originally heart-shaped – one side is now lost – and expanded at its narrower end; a sub-triangular slot separates body of duck from plate. The body of the duck is rendered without surface detail, save for the eyes which are defined by deeply incised rings. These may have contained enamel but no trace of colourant survives. The brooch fastens with a swivelling pin engaging a simple folded catch-plate…
