Object type: PIN
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: North East Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy probable pin fragment. Cast globular pin head with collar separating it from the stub of a shank of diameter 1.7mm. The top may be flattened and circular patches of rust-tinted staining might suggest spots of enamel or stamped ring and dot, while the surface of the pin head may be silvered; possibly Flixborough type 130. The object appears partly melted, and this damage may be responsible for the appearance of what would be an unusual medium for decoration. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 750-850. Height: 13.2mm, Diameter: 9.7mm, Weight: 3.66gms
