Abraded medieval sheet copper alloy rectangular book clasp with a hook at one end and a single pivot loop at the other. Howsam 2016 Type A.5.1, a very small example. There is a slight projection at all four corners. Engraved decoration is not completely legible: lines along both sides join in the centre at both ends, and there appears to be two closely spaced punched annulets. Despite the wear that the object has suffered it cannot have ever been very strong and was probably quite flimsy when new. Weight 0.56g. Length 22.8mm. Width 8.3mm. 15th – early 16th century.
