A piece of a late 17th/early 18th century slip decorated earthenware dish or charger plate. The decoration is raised and polychrome, the glaze being a deep cream and the decoration in dark brown and ochre. It is difficult to extrapolate from the small amount of remaining decoration what the entire design may have been; these large plates were often personalised.

A body fragment of a medieval vessel. The fragment is from a large vessel, possibly a storage bowl or pot. There is a destictive 'V' shaped handle or bridge spout with a decorative moulded flower on either side. It is rectangular in section. The vessel was wheel--thrown due to the rilling on the internal surface. The handle/bridge spout was moulded separately and then attached to the vessel. It's walls are much thicker than the wall of the vessel. Glaze remains on the external surface of the vessel. The surface of the vessel has been badly worn in deposition so the exact colour of …

Pottery plaque. Two fragments of a large ceramic plaque of estimated diameter 450mm. This has a low and non-functional foot-ring on the reverse, and a painted or enamel design fired on the display face. A florid signature in apparently European script, which is undeciphered, was painted on the reverse before firing fixed the decorative scheme. The plaque was glazed on both sides and shows evidence for subsequent repair on the reverse of both fragments: a series of pin-holes of diameter 1.5mm are set 40mm or more apart along the broken edges of both fragments. Gloss varnish has also be…

Fragment of a ceramic Medieval vessel handle. The handle is a rod handle which, on the exterior face has been decorated with two stabs, and has traces of a dark green glaze splash on it. The fabric is quite hard, has a mid grey core, buff coloured margins and a pale brown surface which is due to a slip. The sherd is recently broken and weighs 41g. The style of handle and its decoration suggests a 13th to 14th century date. Pitchers and jugs all used similar handles, therefore the form is not certain.
