Object type: STUD
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Northamptonshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A cast pewter convex stud probably dating to the medieval period. Circular, in the form of a multifoil rosette with twelve moulded 'petals' separated by grooves. Within the grooves is evidence of tinning. Flat top underneath which, on the reverse, is a broken circular section shaft with protruding casting seam. The shaft was probably made from iron judging by the orange corrosion product surrounding it. This artefact is very similar to a stud illustrated on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database, ref. LEIC-C14F07.
