Modern livery button, a circular slightly domed copper alloy button with a coating of white metal featuring an embossed design of 'a griffins head and wings endorsed, gorged with a Garter King of Arms coronet'. The reverse has a central copper alloy loop, but it is badly corroded and the makers name is illegible. The arms are those of the Dugdale family of Merevale Hall, and the button probably dates to c1840 - 1900. Recorded as of local interest.

Lead alloy probable button fragment. Cast flat discoid button bearing what appears as a Chinese character on its display face. The object has a flat polished area on the back where a loop may have been lost. The surface elsewhere bears the appearance of copper plating. The use of a reddish metal coating over grey base metal is characteristic of a few objects viewed by this reporter ; these were ascribed to probably recent theatrical or fancy-dress uses: in this case perhaps from the stock costume of a Chinaman.
