Incomplete early Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy small-long brooch. The head and bow are mostly extant, but the foot and pin are missing. The head appears to have been cruciform, or rectangular with four cut-outs: one at each of the top corners and two on the underside, one on each side of the bow. The top edge and one of the lateral edges are original, but they are missing a small fragment from each end. There are two incomplete circular perforations near the top. They are both open to the potential corner cut-outs, while one is additionally truncated by a vertical break, from which the orig…

Copper alloy brooch fragment. Cast head fragment from a little small long brooch, with a rectangular plate indented to either side of the bow on its lower edge, and bearing a series of stamps along its three other surviving straight sides. The stamp takes the form of an elongated ovulo c.4mm long with a central groove, perhaps ultimately derived from the pattern deployed in earlier times as a frieze on decorated Samian Ware bowls. A U-shaped lug on the back retains rust from the decay of an iron pin, which must therefore have been in place when the object was deposited. Suggested …

Incomplete Medieval or Post Medieval lead seal, c. AD 1300-1700.  The artefact comprises a flat, semi-hemispherical disc (presumably half of a circular disc) with an irregular flan. The reverse is undecorated and has an uneven surface. The obverse is flat and decorated with incised shapes and letters. Two incised grooves either side of a pelleted row define a central plain circle with pelleted border. Abutting the pelleted border are incised shapes, probably letters, which have largely lost their definition and cannot be discerned. The break reveals that the object is composed of…
