Two fragments of a Modern incomplete copper alloy badge awarded in World War Two, AD. 1939-1945.  Together, both fragments comprise approx. 60% of an oval-shaped badge made of embossed sheet brass. The obverse features a central helmet with embossed swastika atop crossed swords on a stipped background within a wreath with bow at the bottom. The reverse reveals the inverse of the embossed obverse design and the badge has lost its pin, spring mechanism and catch plate.  This badge is a Wound Badge awarded during WW2 to German soldiers and civilians who had suffered wound…

A gold finger ring of 18th century to modern date. The hoop is plain and very narrow (1.6mm wide) with a D shaped cross section 0.8mm thick which has flattened sides. The internal diameter is around 19.9mm. It appears to have been made from a length of metal curved around and soldered to a butt joint which has been filed smooth. The interior appears to have a black (lacquer?) coating. There are no inscriptions or marks.

A badge of the Leicestershire Regiment. The circular badge is made of pressed copper alloy sheet and is complete but badly bent, presumably by post-depositional agricultural activity. It has raised lettering with G HAYWOOD IBSTOCK around the edge on the obverse, and a makers mark [J.W. & CO. BIRMINGHAM] on the reverse. It retains some of its original black japanned finish. George Haywood is listed in trade directories as being in business as a tailor and draper in Ibstock in 1895, but is not mentioned in the 1912 directory. Recorded as of local interest.

Modern painted metal cross-like object. The metal is probably spelter or a lead alloy. It has a black surface treatment, probably something like an enamel paint. Two coterminous pieces have survived, the rest of the object is lost. The central element of both pieces is a raised decoration in the form of the staff of Thoth, the ancient Egyptian often depicted with the head of an ibis and carrying an ankh and the staff shown on the cross. Iron bar fragment. A short fragment of probably cast iron, of trapezoid section, with a corroded point at one end, broken cleanly at the other. A thick [1mm] coat of black paint covered all except the ends, though now spalled in places. Probably from an iron gate or railing, and perhaps a casualty of the wartime (c.1940) collection of metal for either recycling or morale-building purposes. Cast tap with a rectangular handle set on a collar with a tapered lower part with a transverse drilled hole of diameter 5mm and a small lug, both features between upper and lower grooves. Traces of black paint appear. The regularity of the object suggests its machine manufacture while the fresh condition indicates a recent date.
