Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Northamptonshire

A fragment of an copper-alloy object. The fragmented nature of the object makes it very difficult to identify. The object is flat with a raised decorative ridge on one side, giving it a semi-circular look with wings when viewed in cross section. The remaining decoration takes the form of three separate bands comprised of a series of ribs. Tiny traces of gilding are just visible in the gaps between the bands. The reverse of the object has the remains of a lug, presumably for attachment purposes. This object has not been dated.

The flint is a mottled light brown-yellow colour. There is cortex or re-cortication at the butt end. There is a suggestion that this is lower or middle Palaeolithic, but this identification must only be taken with great caution.
