A fragment of a Medieval to Post Medieval copper-alloy cooking vessel dating to to circa AD 1200-1700. The extant piece is a fragment of the rim probably from a cauldron or posnet. It is rectangular in plan terminating in old breaks at either end. It has a reverted rim. Complete medieval to post-medieval copper-alloy posnet: a three-legged cooking vessel similar in form to a small cauldron, but with a long handle extending from the rim. The body is a spheroid, approximately 162mm in diameter in the middle, slightly oblate at the base and slightly prolate in the upper part beneath the base of the rim. Incomplete terminal of a Roman copper-alloy patera handle in the form of a ram's head. The ram's left horn (as seen from the front) is missing. At the back of the head there are faint traces of a small curved edge, part of the base of the now-missing handle. No decoration can be seen, apart from the remains of one of the horns. Similar to NMS-772B89, although in poorer condition and with less apparent detailing. See also de la Bédoyère 1989, Fig. 48e. Length 34.8mm, width 22.0mm, thickness 23.8mm. Weight 55.1g.
