A 17th-century Yarmouth Borough token. Rose mint-mark. The decoration on the obverse is very worn, and so, the design is hard to establish. However, the reverse side has relatively good preservation, and shows a centred shield, containing three horizontally-places lions, facing left, with fish tails. An incomplete copper alloy Token of Post Medieval date (AD 1665-1674). The object is a Half Penny Token of an uncertain maker. Diameter: 15.14mm, Thickness: 0.69mm, Weight: 0.5g. The coin is missing a small portion of its outer flan. Trade Tokens were produced during this period due to a severe lack of smaller denominations. Traders throughout the country produced such tokens to facilitate the purchase of goods and comestibles. The production of such tokens ceased in 1674 by Royal decree (EC).

A copper alloy post-medieval farthing trade token issued by the City of Bristol and probably dated (AD) 1660. Town tokens are among the first trade tokens to be issued with Bristol being early to catch on, however this example is one of the latest encountered. These farthing and halfpenny tokens were banned in c. AD 1672 with the reintroduction of offifical state coinage of the same denominations. cf. Williamson page 241 (Glos) no. 12-20.
