Spanish Post Medieval copper alloy four maravedis 'resellado' of Philip III (1598-1621) or Philip IV (1621-1665), countermarked revalued/revalidated in 1659 during the reign of Philip IV (1621-1665). IIII followed by two annulets in an oval counterstamp on one side with an unclear counter mark next to it. V[...] and 1659, the latter in an oval counterstamped on the other. These are often called 'cob' coins after the Spanish word for copper which is 'cobre': they were crudely made in Spain initially and later in the Americas for use in the Spanish colonies. The coinage was re-valued…

Copper alloy 4 maravedis resellado, which means resealed or restruck, of Philip IV (1621-1665), of Spain, countermarked with crowned IIII and another IIII on the reverse while the obverse has the date of 1659 and the number VI . So the coin, which was probably orginally an 8 maravedis of Philip III of Spain, was revalued first to 6 maravedis in 1659, as it wore down, and then to 4 maravedis, during the reign of Philip IV. Cf. Cayon, p.625, nos.5216-5225.

A post-medieval copper-alloy4-maravedis of either Philip II of Spain (1556-1598)or Philip III of Spain (1598-1621), possibly from the Segovia mint. The coin has been countermarked to revalue it, presumably as an 8 maravedis, during the reign of Philip IV (1621-1665). The date underneath the 'REX' countermark is illegible but will date to some point in the late 1650s, possibly 1659. See Clemente and CayĆ³n no.5180-5224.

Copper alloy 4 maravedis resellado, which means resealed or restruck, of Philip IV (1621-1665), of Spain, countermarked with crowned VI and the date of 1655 on the obverse, and a crowned IIII over the date 1636 on the reverse, so revalued first to 6 maravedis in 1636 and then 4 maravedis in 1655. On the obverse there appears to be a 'S' below the VI, which probably refers to the Segovia or the Sevilla mint. Cayon 5203-4.

Copper alloy 4 maravedis resellado, which means resealed or restruck, of Philip IV (1621-1665), of Spain, countermarked with crowned IIII over the top of a raised VI within an recessed oval and the date of 1654 on the obverse and another IIII on the reverse. So the coin, which was probably orginally an 8 maravedis of Philip III of Spain, was revalued first to 6 maravedis in 1636, as it wore down, and then to 4 maravedis in 1654, during the reign of Philip IV. On the reverse there appears to be a 'B' to the left of the IIII, which probably refers to the Burgos mint. Cayon 5189.
