Below is an anthropomorphic facing mask with recessed eyes of differing shapes, a central moulded trapezoidal nose and two transverse mouldings indicating the mouth. Silver gilt pilgrim badge. A circular plate bearing the framed image of the Virgin and Child, the Virgin crowned and with sceptre and the Child haloed, viewed against a cross-hatched ground within a cabled inner border, a gutter, and an outer frame which is externally lined. A probably integrally cast D-section bar passes behind the image and across its flat plain back and is broken at the site of a sharp curve. Gilded overall, chipped. Gold and glass fob seal, as kindly identified by the finder. A thin casing of reddish gold with a billeted band passing round three sides to afford grip and with a billeted frame for a flat polished opaque black glass gem engraved with the image of a snake passing left through long grass, with the reversed legend above: BEWARE. Lead powder flask cap. A small cylindrical vessel with thickened rim, now squashed closed. A small loop is flattened against the lower side, for strung attachment to the flask. A vertical strengthening rib appears on one side of the lid, with a mould line opposite. Patinated. The smaller of two similar objects presented together. This is the cap from a powder flask. A powder flask might be used singly by a sportsman or might be carried on a bandolier as one of the ‘twelve apostles’ to equip a musketeer. It held a single measured charge.
