The fabric is hard, fine with a gritty surface, and is orange in the core and buff on the surfaces. Abundant well sorted quartz inclusions, breaking the surface. 2) A fragment of ceramic building material, likely Roman in date. Soft dark orange fabric, very highly abraded. Sparse quartz inclusions and occasional lenses of yellow clay.

Two fragments of ceramic vessels (pottery) collected through unsystematic fieldwalking. The sherds are small and highly abraded. 1) A body sherd of reduced ware pottery, likely Roman or Medieval in date. Hard, fine texture, grey core and buff surfaces. Frequent poorly sorted quartz inclusions.  2) A body sherd of black glazed red pottery, likely dating to the late Medieval or Post-Medieval period. Possibly Wrenthorpe ware or a similar blackware. Very hard, fine dark orange fabric, with lustrous black glaze on both faces. Sparse rounded black and grey and dark red inclsuions.
