Three large fragments of ceramic Roman roof tile or 'tegula'. These three fragments are orange and two quite clearly show the diagnostic large, 90 degree flange and weigh in excess of a kilo. Also two fragments of orange ceramic that clearly show combed decoration used on box flue tiles used in Roman hypocaust (under floor heating) systems. These have a combined weight of 101.19g An additional, thinner, heavily abraded fragment of orange ceramic is probably the rim of a roman vessel and weighs 15.12g. Frgament of tile, possibly Roman in date. This fragment is subrectangular in plan and section. It is 35.5mm long, 31.92mm wide, 21.82mm thick and weighs 38.87g. It is fairly abraded and worn, but it is possible to see that the tile has misfired, in that it has two orange coloured faces and a dark grey core. Though a Roman date is postulated, given the wear, it could be possible that this tile dates from any period upto the 18th century.
