Object type: BLADE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A copper-alloy blade fragment, probably dating to the Late Bronze Age. It is possibly from a sword but there is no central thickening or mid-rib, and it is very thin. All the surfaces are lost to pale/mid green invasive corrosion, with additional recent surface grazes, probably from the plough. The side view shows some bending near the break, possibly supporting the deliberate fragmentation as found on sword fragments from Late Bronze Age 'founders' hoards. It is 31mm in length, 34mm wide and 4mm thick, weighing 20g.

A worn copper-alloy awl, late Bronze Age or possibly Roman in date. It is possibly incomplete although it is difficult to tell due to wear. This awl measures 34.3mm in length and 3.4g in weight, it has one square sectioned end, c5mm in width and thickness and one oval sectioned tapering end, 4.4mm in width and 4.1mm in thickness. Description: A small late Bronze Age hoard consisting of a bronze spearhead, two joining short sword blade fragments and a possible chisel terminal fragment. 1: A pegged bronze spearhead, almost complete with the end of the tip missing and part of the socket mouth missing, the tip break appears ancient but the socket break seems more recent as there is a fresh scar along its edge. Next to this fresher break there is a worn rounded edge which may be due to an original casting flaw. Other damage along the blade edges, in the form of at least four dents causing burring on the blade fac…
