An incomplete (approx 1/4) Post Medieval ceramic delftware bichrome tin glazed wall tile dating to AD 1680-1750. Probably made in London. The tile is decorated with a central scene in blue and white depicting a castle or other building with a lake in front and a swan on the lake. Around this is a triple-line border with concave corner panels containing a floral motif. The reverse of the tile is unglazed.

A fragment of a ceramic artefact, probably a stove tile, of Post-Medieval date, about AD 1550 - 1600. It has one incomplete original edge and three broken edges. The original edge and part of the face is glazed. There is a white slip covered with a copper glaze. The fabric is hard, fine and pale orange, dark red on the unglazed part of the outer face. There are frequent, small, angular heterogeneous inclusions. It is 51.2mm long, 37.8mm wide and 12.5mm thick. It weighs 20g. Compare LON-63B5F9 for more information.

A fragment of Medieval ceramic floor tile. The tile has an orange red fabric with speckled inclusions. In the upper surface is a design in white enamel that is to small to identify the original design. This surface also has brown glaze across both the white enamel undecorated portions of the tile. The reverse is plain and undecorated having an irregular surface. The tile fragment is 67mm long, 52.1mm wide, 23.9mm thick and weighs 82.12 grams. An incomplete ceramic tile of Roman date (AD 43 - 410) with probable opus signinum concrete attached. Description The tile is rectangular in plan but one corner has been lost with a 45 degree break approximately 140mm long. Concrete is attached to both faces and 120mm of one edge, from which it overhangs by about 31mm. A sub rectangular piece of ceramic, crudely moulded. It is orange in colour with some large inclusions. It is a corner of a large, thick tile, with slightly inward sloping sides. One the top of the tile, two crossing lines have been scratched in while the clay was wet, presumably to enable adherence of plaster or similar. It is likely to be part of a hypocaust or box flue system. Found in the vicinity of Roman tile kilns and may possibly have been manufactured there, clay pits have also been identified at the site. A fragment of medieval to post medieval floor tile, dating from 1400-1600 AD. The tile is square in shape, missing two of the corners, and part of the third. It is unglazed, and decorated with four fleur de lis, with diagonal interlaced lines dividing them. The decoration is in white slip. The surface is worn and has dark grey patches across it. The tile is a reddy orange colour. The reverse is undecorated, it has a sandy textured surface which is possibly the adhesive. The tile measures 108.7mm by 104.8mm by 22.5mm, and weighs 408g. Egan, 1998, pages 38-40.

A fragment of a post-Medieval roof tile of earlier date (c.1500-1700 AD).  The fragment is unpatterned, sub-rectangular in plan and slightly curved with a raised concave pattern. The raised parts may in fact be part of the tile's edge decoration. Both the interior and exterior is light orange with darker orange edges. Its core is grey, with very fine inclusions. It has even so slight traces of a brown-red glaze. Measurements: Length 35.28mm, width 28.36mm, thickness 7.10mm and weighs 7.76 g.
