The object is fully three-dimensional; it is oval in form and in cross-section with rounded edges. An incomplete Roman cast copper alloy headstud brooch dating to c.AD 75-200. The wings are semi-circular in cross-section and rectilinear in form. The wing cap on one side is decorated with incised linear lines, the parallel decoration on the other end is worn and not visible. The reverse of the wings has a central notch for the missing pin. The bird sits with its wings at rest and head facing forward. The eyes of the bird are shallow circular drilled holes and it has a recessed gently curved beak. A complete cast copper-alloy Roman rotary key dating to c.AD 43-410 The key has a circular bow set at right angles to a simple rectangular bit, and with a hollow-ended shank. The bow aperture is mushroom or pelta shaped. The bit has a rectangular notch cut out of its forward edge at its junction with the stem, and two angular notches cut out of its lower edge.
