Copper-alloy dupondius of Trajan (AD 98-117), dating to AD 103-111 (Reece Period 5), S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI S C, Single span bridge with tower at each end; below, boat. Mint of Rome. RIC III, p. 284, no. 570. The coin is heavily corroded / depleted, hence the light weight of 6.60g. This is the bridge built over the River Danube for Trajan's invasion of Dacia. It was designed by the architect Apollodorus.
