A worn copper-alloy Roman dupondius of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar under Antoninus Pius (AD 139-161), dating to the period AD 153-155 (Reece period 7). TR POT [VIII/VIIII COS II] S C, Reverse type depicting Minerva standing left holding owl and vertical spear, shield on ground to right. Mint of Rome. As BMC nos. 1960, 1985; RIC III p. 184, no. 1317. This is a 'Coin of British Association' struck in Rome, but only apparently issued to Britain. 11 specimens were found in the Sacred Spring at Bath (Walker Roman Coins from the Sacred Spring at Bath p. 298 nos. 363-73).
