A Medieval silver imitation penny of John I Duke of Brabant and Limburg (AD 1267-1297). The coins were known as brabantini. This example is a Walt type, issued AD 1270-1282 AD. These coins imitated voided long-cross pennies, and date to AD1270 - 1280 and precede the common sterling imitations made during the reign of Edward I. Identification kindly suggested by the finder.

A complete silver, Medieval, brabantius of Jean III, Duke of Brabant (AD 1312 - AD 1355), probably dating from the period AD 1312 - AD 1355, obverse depicts a shield split into four, each angle has a lion rampant sinister. Reverse depicts a Short cross 'feullie', with a trefoil at each end. Mint of Louvin. Diameter: 17.2 mm Thickness: 0.9 mm Weight: 1.0 g A similar coin has been recorded on the PAS database as NCL-E55A51. These coins are not enormously common as single finds.
