A complete, pewter, Token of Elizabeth I (AD 1558 - AD 1603), possibly dating to the period AD 1574 - AD 1600. Reverse shows a crowned shield, with possible lion rampant, flanked by a pillar topped with a trefoil design on either side of the shield, there is possibly floral spray around the outside of the decoration but this is unclear. The Obverse is difficult to make out due to wear. The legends are illegible. Possible 'Lyon' Series. Possibly North vol 2, p 140, no 2064. Cast double faced lead token with a two headed eagle on one side and a tudor rose on the other. This was a widely used late Elizabethen type that circulated as unofficial currency. Some have the inscription 'GOD SAVE THE QUEEN' on the reverse by that is not visible here. The token has broken in half and is 20.7mm in diameter, 13.5mm wide and 1.1mm thick, it weighs 1.87 grams.
