A cast, copper alloy, coin weight of early post-medieval date, probably dating from 1530-1600AD. It is square and double sided. One side carries the device of a crowned rose and the other that of a hand within a wreath. These markings suggest that it was of Continental manufacture, the hand being the mark for Antwerp in the Low Countries, and that it was used to weigh the gold crowns issued during the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I between 1526 and 1548. A circular copper alloy token which is 23.3mm in diameter and 1.3mm thick. The front is decorated with a double border within which is a double headed eagle. There is a “G” at the top between the heads, a star under the left head, an annulet under the right head and a shield beneath the bird. The shield has a flat top and a curved bottom. It has a wide stripe horizontally across the centre. The date “1591” is split between the space on either side of the shield. The token is pierced with a circular hole just to the right of the “G”. A cast copper alloy coin weight depicting a rose with a crown above (on one side) and a crown with the letters IIS // VID (on two lines) below (on the other side). The coin weight is square in shape and is made from a very thin plate of flat copper alloy. This type of coin weight would have been used to weigh coins of Elizabeth I.

A silver half groat of Elizabeth I (1558-1603). The coin has been bent in half, perhaps deliberately, making close identification of the obverse impossible. This probably belongs to Elizabeth's first or second silver coinages and therefore c.1558-1572. See North, 1975: nos. 1987, 1999.
