A worn copper alloy Roman radiate of Carus (AD 282-283), dating to the period c.AD 282-283 (Reece period 14). VIRTVS AVGG reverse type depicting the Emperor standing right holding parazonium and receiving Victory on globe from Jupiter (or Carinus or Numerian) holding sceptre. Mint of Antioch. cf. RIC V.2, p. 150, no. 124. Diameter: 20mm; thickness: 1mm; weight: 2.9g. This is an unusual coin as a British find and there were no examples from Antioch amongst the 142 coins of Carus in the Gloucester Hoard (see CHRB XIII).
