Medieval silver penny, probably a continental imitation of a coin of Edward I-III, possibly Mayhew 240b issued by Gaucher of Chatillon, 1300-1325 AD.
While the coin is identical in many ways with an English regular issue it combines features not normally seen together on the same coin. It has a bifoliate crown which is only found in Class 10 onwards or the coins of Edward III. However the legend EDW R ANGL DNS hYB is only found on Classes 1-9 or the Florin coinage of Edward III. The Canterbury Florin coinage has lombardic n's on the reverse whereas these are roman. It also combines a …
