A corroded copper alloy coin, possibly a Roman as or dupondius of an uncertain ruler, dating to c.AD 43 - 260. The coin has been pierced near the perimeter with a circular hole 5mm in diameter which has broken through the edge, suggesting re-use of the coin at a later date, The object is in very poor, corroded condition, is 27mm in diameter and weighs 8.12g.

The reverse possible shows a standing figure. The coin has a maximum diameter of 26.90mm, and a thickness of 3.50mm. It weighs 10.49g. There are some deep pits of corrosion.

A complete but corroded and worn Roman probable dupondius or as of uncertain ruler, of 1st-3rd century date. Unclear reverse type ans mint. The coin had been deliberately pierced with a drilled and countersunk hole c. 2 mm in diameter, c. 2 mm from one edge. This was possibly to allow the coin to be worn as a decoration or amulet. Similar examples on this database include IOW-340683 and SUR-5EDE09.

Silver coin. A small module hammered coin covered with a thick sooty deposit; cleaning reveals white metal, though whether this is a coating or the fabric of the coin throughout is uncertain. The letter A in the legend is the sole detail clearly distinguished, possibly an obverse feature. The range of possible identifications extends from an imperial denarius, if so, probably a later issue given the mass; through the series of base silver and silver-washed radiates.
