Object type: COIN
Broad period: ROMAN

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A silver pierced Roman denarius of uncertain type, probably dating to the later Antonine or Severan period, c.AD 175-211. The coin has a large central rectangular piercing that has removed large areas of both faces making a close identification difficult. The reverse type is [...X?]VIII COS III P P depicting an unclear seated figure left.
This coin measures 17.6x15.5mm and weighs 1.05g. The edge appears to have been hammered to 1.7mm thick on one of the short sides and the illegible obverse is convex.
