An early medieval copper alloy Northumbrian penny (styca) of Eanred (810-41), early phase, moneyer: Hwætræd, mint: Northumbria (probably York/East Riding). Ref: Naismith 2017: 119-25, pl. 23 nos 684-90.
The coin is incomplete, about one third of the flan is missing in a single fragment with uneven breakage lines.
Obverse description: Small central cross pattee.
Obverse inscription: [E]ANRED RE[X]
Reverse description: small central cross ?potent.
Reverse inscription: +HVAET[RE]D

A base silver hammered coin dating from the Early Medieval period: a styca of Eanred of Northumbria (AD 810-840), Phase 1 (AD 810 - 835) struck at the mint of Northumbria by the moneyer Cunwulf (CYNVVLF). North (1994) Volume 1, number 186 on page 71. Obverse: EANRED REX retrograde and upside down around a central cross pattee, contained within beaded border. Reverse: CYNVVLF around central cross pattee, contained within beaded border. The coin is 13.3mm in diameter, 0.8mm thick, and 0.69g in weight.

A complete copper alloy styca dating to the period AD 830 to 867.
The obverse depicts a central cross surrounded by the legend which reads X HAIREIH. The obverse depicts a central ring and dot motif surrounded by the legend which reads X MONNE in retrograde and refers to the moneyer. The coin may be a contemporary imitation due to the nonsensical legend on the obverse which does not refer to any of the Northumbrian rulers under which Monne struck coins.
