An early-medieval early silver penny (sceat) of Aldfrith of Northumbria (685-704), Primary Phase, mint: Northumbria (probably York). Ref: North 1994: no.176,; Metcalf 1993: no.21; Abramson 2012: no. 69-10. Obverse Large pellet within circle of dots in the centre. Legend: ALDFRIDUS. Reverse: Fantastic quadruped left with three pronged tail. Measurements: 11mm in diameter and 1.4g in weight.
