Initial Mark: probably Cross Potent. Mint: Uncertain. Spink (2003) page 17 No 5052, also page 18 No 5053 or 5057. Diameter: 16.3 mm Thickness: 0.8 mm Weight: 0.7 g Coin is heavily worn and much of the detail is missing.

A silver Medieval Sottish coin; a penny of Alexander III (AD 1249 - 1286), second coinage (AD 1280 onwards), type Mb or Mc. The mullets on the reverse have six points each, suggesting that the mint may be Berwick. See Spink's Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands (2003) number 5054 or 5055 on page 18. This coin also appears to fit into Burn's Group I, Class III. Compare number 13 on page 167 of The Coinage of Scotland (1887) Volume 1. The coin has been broken into two piece and repaired with glue, and there is a portion missing. It is 20mm diameter, 0.7mm thick and 1.13g.
