SIlver, Medieval, complete, Penny of Alexander III of Scotland (AD 1249 - AD1286), dating to the period AD 1280 - AD 1286. Issued as part of the Second Coinage, Long cross and stars reverse type. Initial Mark: Cross Potent. Mint: possibly Berwick. Spink No. 5054 , page 18. Diameter: 19.9 mm Thickness: 0.6 mm Weight: 1.0 g Spink (2003) argues that the number of points on the stars, in total, can identify the mint, this example has 24 points in total and would suggest Berwick on Tweed as the mint. This coin is missing part of the legend to the right and the bottom of the reverse.
