A corroded and complete Roman silver denarius of Maximinus I (235-238 AD) dating to the period AD 236 (Reece Period 11). The obverse depicts a laureate and draped bust facing right; legend reads: IMP MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG. The reverse shows Providentia standing left with cornucopia and wand pointed at globe at foot; legend reads: PROVIDENTIA AVG. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, p. 141, no. 13; BMC VI, p. 230, nos. 86-88. The coin has a mottled orange-brown discolouration over the majority of its surface but where this has spalled the underlying silver can clearly be seen.

A copper alloy (brass) Roman contemporary copy of a Denarius of Maximinus I (AD235-238), measuring 18-19mm in diameter and weighing 3.10g (47.8gn). It is worn and cast, and if silvered would have been intended to pass as a denarius. It is too light to be acceptable as an aureus.
