The copper-alloy core from a plated silver Roman denarius of Septimius Severus (AD 193-211), probably dating to the period c.AD 196-211 (Reece Period 10). ADVENTVI AVG FELICISSIMO reverse type depicting Severus riding right, right arm raised. Prototype of the mint of Rome. cf. RIC IV.1, p. 100 no. 74. The obverse is probably from a different type or issue of Severus, since the prototypes of this reverse only list Severus with a laureate head and no drapery or cuirass.
