Copper alloy Roman sestertius possibly of Commodus (AD 175 - 192), Reece period 9, reverse probably depicts Providentia standing left with sceptre in left hand, both the obverse and reverse of the coin are heavily corroded and deeply pitted making further identification difficult. The reverse compares with that of PUBLIC-32DC7A which is suggested as a variant of RIC vol.III, p.404, no.312. Cf. BMC IV, p.760, pl.101, fig.2, no.373.

A worn copper-alloy Roman sestertius of Commodus (AD 175-192), probably dating to the period AD 184-186 (Reece period 9). Reverse type depicting Victory standing right setting with both hands on a palm tree a round shield inscribed VO/[DE], S-C in the field. Mint of Rome. For the reverse type Cf. RIC III p. 417 no. 449a, p.421 nos. 472, 474; BMC p. 806, no. 584. The surface of the coin appears to have patches of rectangular indentations across it. These were made in antiquity as the patina covers their surface.

A complete copper-alloy sestertius struck for Commodus, dating c. 187-188 AD. Reece period 9, mint of Rome. Reverse; P M TR P XIII IMP VIII COS V P P, Fortuna, draped, seated left holding rudder on globe in left hand and cornucopia in right hand. 'S-C' across fields, 'FOR RED' in ex. Despite some wear, the coin is preserved in good condition with an even brown patina covering both its faces. BMC p. 817, no. 618; RIC III p. 425, no. 513.
