Record ID: PUBLIC-539997
Object type: COIN
Broad period: ROMAN
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Published
A much corroded copper alloy dupondius or as of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar, dating to AD 154-60 (Reece Period 7), TR POT (VIIII or XIIII) COS II S C, Mars advancing right with spear and trophy. Mint of Rome. RIC III, p. 184, no. 1322 or pp. 188-9, 1354. This is probably a Coin of British Association, many examples of RIC 1322 being found in the Sacred Spring at Bath (Walker 1988, p. 299, nos. 375-435). The weight of the coin suggests that it is an as.
