A worn Roman copper-alloy dupondius or as, of Marcus Aurelius as caesar, dating to the period c.AD 153-155 (Reece period 7). TR POT [VIII/VIIII COS II] S C, Reverse type depicting Minerva standing left holding owl and vertical spear, shield on ground to right. Mint of Rome. As BMC nos. 1960, 1985; RIC III p. 184, no. 1317. This is a 'Coin of British Association' struck in Rome, but only apparently issued to Britain. 11 specimens were found in the Sacred Spring at Bath (Walker Roman Coins from the Sacred Spring at Bath p. 298 nos. 363-73). 21mm diameter, 3.5mm thick. Weighs 7.28g

A heavily corroded copper-alloy Roman as or dupondius of Antonine date, possibly Macus Aurelius (AD 161-180) as Caesar, dating to the period c.AD 139-161 (Reece period 7). Reverse type possibly depicting Mars walking right holding spear and trophy. Mint of Rome. cf. RIC III, p. 184, no. 1322. If this is indeed Marcus as Caesar with the Mars reverse type then it is possibly a Coin of British Association as listed by D. Walker in his report on the Sacred Springs at Bath (Walker, 1988: pp. 295, 299, nos. 382-435, pl. XXXVIII).

Initially, it was thought that this coin was contemporary copy, but it does appear official.
