A worn Roman copper-alloy Dupondius or As, of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius , c.AD 139-180. Obverse showing bare headed and draped bust right. Reverse: Minerva standing left holding awl and spear, shield to left side. 21mm diameter, 3.5mm thick. Weighs 7.28g NOTE: This is a "Coin of British Association" per Marcus as Caesar under Pius.

A Roman Dupondius of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar under Antoninus Pius (AD 139-61), dating to c. AD 153-155 (Reece period 7). Obverse: AVRELIVS CA[ESAR AVG PII FIL], bare-headed and draped bust right. Reverse: [TR POT VIII/VIIII COS] (S C), Minerva standing left holding owl and spear with shield at side. RIC III, p. 184, cf. no. 1317 (for TR POT VIII) and D. Walker, Roman Coins from the Sacred Spring at Bath p. 298, no. 374 (for TR POT VIIII). This is a 'Coin of British Association' struck in Rome, but only apparently issued to Britain. 11 specimens were found in the Sacred Spring at Bath…
