Report for H M Coroner Bottesford (addenda), Lincolnshire Richard Abdy 4 AR denarii to AD 207 - see also NLM-ADA762, NLM-C03203 and NLM-28BC26 (with a fifth, stray coin at NLM-28CBD5). Circumstances of discovery These addenda were found whilst metal-detecting on a number of occasions between 1997 - 2013. The original find was a Severan denarius hoard (tpq AD 207) consisting of 165 coins (and eleven pottery sherds from a greyware globular jar). This was published by J. Williams and V. Prototype of the mint of Rome. cf RIC I (2nd ed.), p. 260, nos. 8, 10. The coin is silver plated on a copper alloy core. It measures 17-18mm in diameter and weighs 2.35g. The coin has a die axis of 7, some wear and areas of plated surface is lost from both sides.

A 'sestertius of Otho' (AD 69). This is a Renaissance or modern forgery as Otho minted no sestertii. The obverse type is recorded, but the reverse type is not included in Z. H. Klawans, Imitations and Inventions of Roman Coins (see page 54, nos. 3-4). Many of these pieces were made in Italy for collectors in the Renaissance and early modern periods and they are often called 'Paduans'.
