An incomplete Post Medieval silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603 ), Second Issue (1561-82), dated 1573 (North 1997), mint: London (Tower), initial mark: uncertain (no longer survives). Ref: North 1991: 134. The coin is very worn and heavily clipped with the outer circle removed including virtually all of the inscriptions. Obverse; Crowned bust facing left with rose behind. Reverse; Long cross fourchee over shield, date above shield 1573. Weight 1.53 grams, Diameter 20.97 mm.

A modified (pierced and gilded) post medieval sixpence of Elizabeth I, coronet initial mark and dated to 1567. As North 1997. The coin has been deliberately bent into an S-shape. The edge of the piercing is rough on the reverse side, suggesting that it was pierced from the obverse side and perhaps fixed by a nail in order to display the obverse.
