Silver sixpence of Elizabeth I, 3rd Issue (1583-1603). Obverse is worn and damaged but would have had the bust of the queen with a rose behind her head and the legend ELIZAB D G ANG FR. The reverse has square shield on cross fourchee with the date 1596 above. The legend reads POSVI [DEVM ADI]TOR [EM] MEVM (See North 1991, 137, No. 2015) The coin has been clipped and bent and has a hole at the centre that appears to be accidental damage rather than a deliberate attempt to pierce the coin. Diameter: 22.27mm; weight: 1.95g

A complete post medieval struck/hammered silver Elizabeth I third issue sixpence, dated AD.1585. The obverse shows a bust of Elizabeth I facing left, wearing a ruffed collar and crown, with a Tudor Rose behind her head. The face is worn, and hard to see, however the hair appears to be worn down. There is an escallop initial mark on both sides of the coin. Legend: [EL]IZAB D [G] ANG FR ET HIB [REGI]. There is a small break in the coin, to the top right of the queens head. Post Medieval silver shilling of Elizabeth I dating to AD 1587 to 1590. Escallope initial mark on the obverse, crescent stamped over escallope on the reverse. North (1991: 136) no.2014. It is interesting to see the initial mark overstamped on the die, wthis is not uncommon for dates on those denominations that have them, but it seems rarer with initial marks.
