A Post Medieval silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (AD1558-1603), dating AD 1565. North no. 1997, second issue. Thje obverse depicts a bust of the Queen in profile facing left with a rose behind. The inscription reads ELIZABET[H D G ] AN . FR . ET . HIB . REGINA. The reverse has the royal shield over a long cross fourchee, with the year 15 / 65 above. The inscription reads POSVI / DEV A[D / IVTOR]E / M MEV. There is a pheon initial mark visible on the reverse and another would have likely been on the obverse. Dimensions: diameter: 18.69 mm; weight: 1.28g.
