A worn silver threepence of Elizabeth I (AD 1558-1603) with crowned bust facing left.
Obverse: (very worn with the bust barely visible) crowned bust left with a rose behind the head. The legend has a mint mark of a Pheon and reads ELIZAB[E]TH.D.[...]AN[...][REG]INA.
Reverse: long-cross fourchee over shield showing royal arms and a date of 156_ above. The reverse legend is mostly missing, but the following remains: [...]DEV.AD.IVTO[...].

Obverse, crowned bust left with rose behind the head: ELIZAB[DG ANG FRA ET/Z H] I [B REGINA]
Reverse is a square shield on long cross fourchee dividing the legend: [POSVI DE]VADI[VTOREM MEV]
Initial mark: Plain Cross or possibly Long Cross. Tower mint of London. Cf. North 1991 Vol II, p. 134, np. 1997.
The coin measures 25.2mm diameter, 0.7mm thick and weighs 2.45 grams.

A heavily clipped Post Medieval silver coin of Elizabeth I, probably a sixpence dating from AD 1595. Initial mark unknown, mint probably London. Cf. North 1991 Vol II, p. 137, no. 2015.
The combination of the obverse bust left with rose behind head right and the date '1595' surmounting the reverse shield suggests that this is the correct identification. The entire circumference of the coin has been clipped including 100% of the legends.
There is a possible damaged pierced hole (at six o'clock) on one edge near the top of the shield.
