Roman copper alloy radiate, probably a contemoporary copy, of Claudius II Gothicus (posthumous: Divus Claudius), dating to c. AD 270-85 (Reece Period 14). Obv. DIVO CLAVDIO, Radiate head right. Rev. CON(SEC)RATIO garlanded altar with flames above. Lower half of altar divided into 4 with dot in lower squares. The prototype is Mint of Rome. This coin is interesting as it combines the two main altar types: one has a swag, the other four panels each with a dot. Cunetio p. 160, cf. nos. 2873/5. Oval flan 18.1mm x 15.5mm. c.AD 270 - 271. Reece period 13.

The flan is irregular and roughly square in form. Similar examples with cross saltire ont he altar have been recorded through the PAS (e.g. NARC-6C60AF and NARC-DAD838).
