Roman copper alloy radiate, probably a contemoporary copy, of Claudius II Gothicus (posthumous: Divus Claudius), dating to c. AD 270-85 (Reece Period 14). Obv. DIVO CLAVDIO, Radiate head right. Rev. CON(SEC)RATIO garlanded altar with flames above. Lower half of altar divided into 4 with dot in lower squares. The prototype is Mint of Rome.  This coin is interesting as it combines the two main altar types: one has a swag, the other four panels each with a dot. Cunetio p. 160, cf. nos. 2873/5. Oval flan 18.1mm x 15.5mm. c.AD 270 - 271. Reece period 13.

CONSECRATIO reverse type depicting an altar with saltire cross decoration. Prototype of the mint of Rome. cf. Normanby no. 1829. The flan is irregular and roughly square in form. Similar examples with cross saltire ont he altar have been recorded through the PAS (e.g. NARC-6C60AF and NARC-DAD838). Measurements: diameter 9.98mm, thickness 0.95mm, weight 0.41g.
