An incomplete, clipped, worn and heavily debased silver shilling of Edward VI (1547-1553) Obverse: crowned bust facing right EDW[ARD VI D G AGL F]R[A Z HIB REX] Reverse: Royal coat of arms on an oval shield [TIMOR DOMINI FONS VITE M D XLIX] Much of the extremities and lower half of the coin is covered in a reddish copper colour. There is a central square hole (3mm by 2mm) pinch through the obverse.

A complete, pierced medieval silver shilling of Edward VI (AD 1547-1553) dating to the third period, 1551-3. I.m Tun. London mint. North (1991:123) no. 1937. In addition to a complete perforation, the coin has a small incomplete, piercing made on the obverse and visible on the reverse. The reverse has crossed etchings in two of the quarters as well as two almost parallel lines. This coin is very worn, particularly on the obverse, and has been clipped, so that the legend and obverse are very unclear. It is 16.4mm in diameter and 0.5mm thick.  It weighs 0.7g. Obverse: Double rose. but very worn  [EDG] ROS[A SINE SPIN]A.  Initial mark  escallop. Reverse: square shield on cross fourchee.  Legend: CIVI/TAS/LON/DON.  Mint mark escallop.

A Post Medieval gold half-sovereign of Edward VI (AD 1547-1553), dating AD 1549. North no. 1911. The reverse depicts the crowned bust of the king in profile facing right. The inscription reads EDWARD . VI : D . G . AG[L . FRA .] Z . HIB . REX. The reverse depicts a crowned garnished oval shield with the initials E and R either side and a V at the base. The inscription reads SCVTVM FIDEI PROTEGET EVM. There is an arrow initial mark on both sides. Minted at the Tower of London. I have examined a coin reported found near Chichester. The coin is a half-groat (2-pence) in the name of Henry VIII, but struck in the early part of Edward VI's reign, 1547-51, at the Southwark mint. Although single coins are not normally eligible for consideration under the terms of the Treasure Act, coins converted into jewellery are so eligible. This coin has been pierced, more or less aligned with the king's portrait on the obverse, and also, it appears, has been gilded.
